Meet Allison
Best Dance Photography
Dancers of RVA
Hi! I'm Allison Day Meyer and I am a dancer, dance instructor, and dance photographer from Northern Virginia. My love of dance and passion for capturing movement on camera are what drive me.
I began my dance training at Chris Collins Dance Studio at the age of 3 and graduated high school with a diploma from the Fine & Performing Arts Program from Woodbridge High School. I furthered my dance studies at Virginia Commonwealth University where I received a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography.
Throughout my dance career, I was selected as a participant in the Dance Theater of Harlem's Residence Program for 2 years and was also a member of the Fusion Dance Company. I received the Joan Oaks Scholarship, the Carpenter Scholarship and the Dean's Scholarships while attending VCU. During my time at VCU, I was fortunate to be chosen to represent the program at the College Dance Festival for three years and was also a performer for the National ACDFA.
I has had the honor to perform in works by talented choreographers such as, Daniel Gwitrzman, Stephanie Batten Bland, Christian Von Howard and Melanie Richards. I have also performed at Alvin Ailey and the Dance Theater Workshop in NYC with the Von Howard project.
Since earning my degree, I found a love for teaching. I have instructed at several dance studios, guest taught at the Cecchettti Council of America's East Coast Conferences and have taught Master Classes and Intensives throughout Virginia.
Recently, I have fallen in love with photography and developed the Ally Day Photography brand and ambassador program. I am beyond blessed to have found a way to merge my passions into dance photography.
Dance is my life and I have been blessed to expand my passions beyond the stage. I am extremely honored to receive recognition from the RVA Dance Awards. My teaching philosophy and style is based off of my teachers growing up. Their love for dance was evident and their motivation was inspiring. I encourage my students to fight for something greater than themselves and to walk out of every class and know that they tried their best. I show them that I care, not just about their training, but about them as people. We have a duty to encourage children and to help them understand what it means to be a good person for the community.
I feel extremely honored to be nominated for Best Dance Photographer. As a newer photographer, I am beyond grateful to be chosen along side my fellow photographers who have helped inspire my photography journey.
A fun fact about me is I am sometimes more graceful walking on my hands then on my feet.
We are so excited to introduce our featured dancers for the upcoming 2nd annual RVA Dance Awards. The 2020 RVA Dance Awards is a live show that celebrates creativity, leadership and innovation by recognizing excellence within our Central Virginia dance community. This event will be held December 2nd virtually.
