Dancers of RVA
I started dancing at West End Academy of Dance when I was 4 years old. After a few years of exploring various styles, I quickly realized hip hop was my true passion. Thanks to the wonderful teaching staff and welcoming environment, WEAD became my second home. Dance continued to by a critical part of my world as I transitioned from high school to college. After four years at the University of Virginia, participating on a hip hop dance team throughout, it was time to enter “the real world.” I worked in a corporate job for five years and realized something major was missing from my life. As luck would have it, WEAD was looking for a hip hop teacher, so I jumped on the opportunity. After the first night of teaching, my passion had been reignited. I loved being back in the studio, connecting with the students at WEAD, and sharing my passion for dance with them. As the now Owner and Studio Director of West End Academy of Dance, my ultimate goal is to ensure our students have the same wonderful experience I had growing up as a WEAD dancer.
WEAD’s mission, and the mission we’ve embodied for over 40 years, is to provide high quality dance instruction, focusing on the growth of individual students. We value personal expression and work to cultivate highly skilled, knowledgeable dancers in a fun, safe, and non-competitive environment.
I am excited for WEAD to have been nominated for the category of Best Digital Content, especially this year, as digital connections have become more important than ever. We have been working to elevate our presence across all digital platforms, and we are thrilled that our efforts have not gone unnoticed. A couple of major shout outs go to Lesley Schott for keeping our social media presence strong, to Kathryn Lee Photography, for providing us with amazing content, photos and videos alike, that perfectly showcase WEAD’s mission, and to Lowe Productions, for seamlessly transitioning our live performances to digital versions.
Fun fact: My new favorite hobby is playing pickle ball!
We are so excited to introduce our featured dancers for the upcoming 2nd annual RVA Dance Awards. The 2020 RVA Dance Awards is a live show that celebrates creativity, leadership and innovation by recognizing excellence within our Central Virginia dance community. This event will be held December 2nd virtually.
