Meet Hadley
Youth Dancer of the Year
Dancers of RVA
Hello RVA community, my name is Hadley Barrett. I started my dance journey when I was eight years old with my very first class, hip hop. I instantly fell in love. I entered the dance competition world a couple of years later and have never looked back. Rehearsing a dance and performing it on stage brings me so much joy and satisfaction. I spend almost all of my time at my studio, Chesterfield Dance Center, learning and growing as a person and dancer. I train in the dance styles of ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, tap, hip hop, and musical theater. I am also lucky enough to be part of the Delirium dance competition team where we push ourselves to be the best dancers we can be. In addition to classes, I am also a student assistant. Student assistants help the teachers plan out classes and teach the children the art form. I just love seeing the children embrace dance and build their confidence over time. After high school, I plan on furthering my dance career by attending college and double majoring in dance and psychology.
This year I was nominated for Youth Dancer of the year. When I found out that I was nominated I was in shock and completely ecstatic. I was so happy that other dancers in the RVA community believed in me. As a dancer, it is hard sometimes to believe that you are good enough. By being nominated it has showed me that others believe in me as a dancer and a person.
A fun fact about me is that one of my prized possession is a poster of Snoop Dogg holding a plate of cookies.
We are so excited to introduce our featured dancers for the upcoming 2nd annual RVA Dance Awards. The 2020 RVA Dance Awards is a live show that celebrates creativity, leadership and innovation by recognizing excellence within our Central Virginia dance community. This event will be held December 2nd virtually.
