Meet RVA Dance Collective
Best Performance Dance Company
Dancers of RVA
RVA Dance Collective was formed in 2007 when Jess Burgess and Danica Kalemdaroglu met and joined forces to create a new voice in dance for the Richmond community. The co-artistic directors work tirelessly to bridge the gap between artists of all mediums in the city of Richmond. Formed under the assumption that great art cannot survive or thrive without the spirit of collaboration, RVA Dance Collective’s artistic goal is the union of all forms of art in the Central Virginia area. Burgess and Kalemdaroglu have worked with visual artists, film artists, musicians, photographers and theatre artists in the spirit of finding absolute creativity. We host a free community modern class every Sunday at Dogtown Dance Theatre because as said by the late Martha Graham, “the body is your instrument in dance, but your art is outside that creature,” RVA Dance Collective’s ongoing mission is geared towards the inclusion of all forms of art for creative and lifelong inspiration.
We are honored to be nominated as the Best Performance Company this season in the 2nd annual RVA Dance Awards. The company presents choreography by the directors, Jess and Danica, company members, as well as commissioned work from acclaimed dance professionals across the region. Now in our 14th professional season, we know our hard work and determination to bring exceptional choreography to Richmond has been recognized by our community.
We are excited to announce the addition of THREE new baby members to the company this year! Dancer Jasmine Tubach had her son Jackson in July, and dancer Lindsay Benson Garrett had twin girls, Ruby and Kelly this August. <3
We are so excited to introduce our featured dancers for the upcoming 2nd annual RVA Dance Awards. The 2020 RVA Dance Awards is a live show that celebrates creativity, leadership and innovation by recognizing excellence within our Central Virginia dance community. This event will be held December 2nd virtually.
