In this very moment, I could not be more proud to be a part of the Richmond dance community. Our small city holds such great talent and although we are all so unique and talented in our own way; we equally share an amazing passion and love for the art of dance and the avenues in which we are all contributing to our dance community. Thank you, RVA Dance Awards for creating the perfect storm for dancers, studio owners, choreographers, directors, and educators to come together and celebrate one another.
I am extremely honored and grateful for my nominations as Choreographer of the Year and Best Artistic Direction. Being able to create, explore, and grow with my dancers is one of the most fulfilling pieces of my life…I wouldn’t trade it for the world. In addition, I was beyond excited to share with my fellow J’adore DANCE faculty and students the nominations of Best Studio and Best Junior Performing Company. As a team, we have stayed driven and dedicated to raising the bar in the dance education, creativity, artistry, and a sense of community within the walls of our studio. We do this all for the sake of our students and the dance community in which we are a part of. We choose to be the teachers we needed as young dancers, mentors, supporters, and a second landing place for our students for no other reason other than, it was what we were called to do. Knowing that our hard work has been recognized in such a way, is not only moving but appreciated beyond words. I truly believe the reason the dance community has become so strong over the last decade is due to the overwhelming amount of talent between teachers, directors, dancers, and studio owners combine. When you are surrounded by greatness, you feel inspired to bring your very best each day. I have no doubt we all have pushed one another towards finding our true potential and in return, RVA is now home to one incredible dance community that seems to just get better and better, year after year.
With that being said… hats off to all of the nominees this year! Your work and hearts are so deserving of this celebration and I couldn’t be more proud and humbled to share this with you. This world is serious enough…why not dance your way through it!
